WILLIAM
PRINDLE
William Prindle is the principal of William Prindle Design in Santa Barbara,
California. Will's approach to contemporary design addresses the
aesthetic and functional aspects of everyday objects. His firm assists
domestic and international clients in developing new products from concept
through manufacture. More than 1,000 of Prindle's designs have been put
into production. His client list includes firms
in Belgium, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico and Taiwan, as well
as in the United States.
Will studied sculpture and glassmaking at Providence's Rhode Island School
of Design. College mentors included architect Kent Keegan and glass artists
Fritz Dreisbach and Dale Chihuly. After earning a bachelor's degree in
fine arts, sculpture, he worked in Italy with
Dino Gavina and Carlo Scarpa at Gavina/Simon International in Bologna,
and at Venini Glass in Murano designing furniture, lighting systems,
and handmade tabletop products.
Prindle received a master's degree in industrial design from
Rhode Island School of Design and worked as Designer, Design Manager and
VP of Design and Development at divisions of Corning, Inc. and Forms+Surfaces
while establishing his own firm to focus on housewares, furniture, tabletop and office products.
Will has published numerous articles on design trends and glassmaking
techniques, and delivered lectures and workshops on glassmaking and product
design for organizations and institutions including the Tableware International
Symposium, the Rhode Island School of Design, the American Ceramics Society, the American Housewares Manufacturing Association,
and the University of California Santa Barbara.
Prindle's designs have been displayed in exhibitions and featured in
books and publications such as Design in Plastics and Product Design
2, Architectural Record, Décor, ID, Interior Design, Metropolis
and The New York Times.
